Full Dentures Denture Implants
Full dentures, or complete dentures, are a removable device that can be used to replace missing teeth. The denture teeth are made out of either acrylic or porcelain and are held together by an acrylic base.
When are they needed? Full dentures are recommended by denturists when you lose all of your teeth, as they can help fill out your appearance again, leaving you feeling more confident to smile.
Full dentures offer incredible benefits, including:
Full Dentures VS Denture Implants
Now that you’ve decided that full dentures are the right option for you, you may be wondering how they are crafted to suit your specific mouth shape. To keep you more informed, here’s what goes into the process of making dentures.
Step One: Making a Model
A plaster model of your mouth is made using the impressions your denturist made during your first appointment.
Step Two: Place in Articulator
This model is then placed on an articulator (a mechanical device that represents the jaw) so that your technician can attach your chosen teeth with wax.
Step Three: The Wax is Carved
The technician then carves and shapes the wax to represent the way your gums look. This will be the base of your dentures.
Step Four: Dentures Are Set in a Flask
Your dentures will then be placed in a flask (a holding device). Plaster will be poured in to maintain the shape of your replacement teeth and the flask is then placed in boiling water to melt away the wax.
Step Five: Inject Acrylic
Any leftover wax is washed away. Acrylic is then injected into the flask to replace the wax and is cured.
Step Six: The Plaster is Removed
Using special lab tools, the technician will then carefully break away the plaster. Your dentures will then be placed in an ultrasonic bath to ensure that all remnants of the plaster mould are completely removed.
Step Seven: Trim and Polish
Once your dentures are completely clean, the technician will trim any excess acrylic from the dentures and then polish them with pumice.
Step Eight: Fitting
Now your dentures are finished and ready to be sent back to your denturist for your initial fitting.
