Characteristics of a Premium Denture

Summary

There is a great deal of variance between the types of dentures available in today’s market.  Last week we discussed Standard Dentures, this week we will examine a higher tier:  Premium Dentures and their features.  Read on to learn more about these innovative devices.

A U.S. survey including 24,000 participants found that 10% of respondents lived with a family member that wore dentures.  With the use of these prosthetic appliances on the rise, it’s important that you understand the pros & cons of each tier.
Premium Dentures feature the following:

One Size Fits All

Therefore, it will require several visits to your denturist before your new teeth fit correctly and are comfortable in your mouth. This is why they require almost 6 times more adjustments compared to precision dentures.

Transition Times

Due to the number adjustments needed to achieve an acceptable “fit”, standard dentures involve a longer transition period compared to precision dentures. Once the denturist has created the dentures, the patient must wear them for a period of time and report back with any issues. The denturist will make adjustments and the cycle is repeated until an acceptable fit is achieved.

Composite Material

Compared to the Acrylic material used in standard dentures, composite material lasts twice as long and does not stain as easily.

Longevity

Due to its composition, a premium denture will typically need to be replaced every 10 years.

Appearance

Premium Dentures tend to look & feel more natural than Standard Dentures.

It’s normal to expect some trial and error with any tier of denture since our mouths and situations are totally different.  Understanding the main features of each denture type will correctly align your expectations as a patient and help you alleviate issues down the road.
