6 Ways to Keep Your Dentures Clean and Your Mouth Healthy

Summary

Everyone wants to keep their teeth pearly white and healthy, whether they are your original teeth, dental implants or dentures. Here are a few ways to help you keep your removable dentures clean and your mouth healthy.

Remove and rinse

After you eat you should always remove your dentures and give them a good rinse. This will dislodge any food particles that remain and discourage bacteria. Place a towel out or fill the sink with water so that your dentures have a soft landing if you accidentally drop them. Always handle your dentures with care, and do not bend any plastic or metal clips.

Clean your mouth

Once you have removed your dentures use a soft bristle toothbrush to gently scrub natural teeth. Use a gauze or a soft toothbrush to clean your gums, tongue, cheeks and palate (the roof of your mouth).
Gently brush your dentures at least once per day
Soak your dentures and then gently clean them using a denture toothbrush and a non-abrasive denture cleanser. This will remove plaque and other deposits. If you use denture adhesive be sure to clean the grooves that fit against your gums to remove any adhesive. Never use denture cleaners inside your mouth.

Soak your dentures overnight

Keeping your dentures moist helps them to retain their shape. Before you go to bed place your dentures in water or a mild denture-soaking solution overnight. If you have any questions about storing your dentures overnight ask your denturist, Vadim Dumbrava, for advice.

Rinse dentures thoroughly before you put them back in your mouth

Especially if you use dentures soaking solution it is imperative that you rinse all of the solution off before you place them in your mouth. These solutions may contain harmful chemicals which can cause vomiting, pain or burning if swallowed.

Schedule regular checkups

Regular checkups are important because they give your denturist Vadim Dumbrava the chance to ensure your dentures are fitting properly and to give them a professional cleaning. Vadim will also take a look at the inside of your mouth to ensure it is healthy. If you are experiencing any discomfort or slippage when you use your dentures they may not be fitting properly and you should book an appointment as soon as possible.
